I have been waiting weeks to show everyone this amazing antique gypsy blouse that I found hiding on a back shelf of a bazaar over in Jaipur. Finally, today, in the light drenched alleyways of Pushkar, I had a little bit of spare time to don said gypsy item and prance around in full view of hoards of school kids and sniggering restaurateurs (embarrassing much?). The Rajasthani gypsies are famous for their elaborate mirrored blouses and lengha combo's (Lengha Choli), and if you're lucky enough you'll find a few brightly clad folk traveling around India selling such wears, just like the ladies I came across in Hampi (here). To see some close ups of this beautiful blouse, follow this thread below or click here.

I love the skirt, the top, the jewellery - how intricate and vibrant the detailing and colours are: inspirational.
ReplyDeleteI just really love this.
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! Seriously beautiful photos. This whole outfit is incredible and the top is beyond amazing. xx
ReplyDeleteHey, thanks for your comment. It's so nice to hear from people just discovering my blog! How did you come across it?
ReplyDeleteI loved India and was totally obsessed with all the beautiful traditional clothing. I wish I could do more shoots like this around the world but traveling and looking good don't always fit together so well!
Just checked out your own blog. I love all you images and your ideas are great although it's making me miss London! It's an inspiration to see how well you are doing since starting your blog in 2009. I hope Wandering Threads will someday inspire as many people as The Style Crusader!
Any tips?!
x
I love this blouse! Especially now that I see it has an open back (which the later post didn't show). The skirt is cool too! Would like to know exactly which markets you sourced and what prices you paid.
ReplyDeleteHi Kelsey,
ReplyDeleteThanks for your comment. Sorry I'm so late in replying to you, I've just been in Malaysia. I purchased both these items in Jaipur but antique gypsy clothing is actually quite hard to track down. Your really just have to be in the right place at the right time. I saw another when I bought this but it was much too big, and this one is rather tiny. Your best bet is to hunt around markets and local textile shops in Rajasthan. You can find skirts like this all over India. I believe I paid 200 rupees for this one.
Hope that helps and happy reading!
Samantha
